Acer on Monday launched a powerful quad-core laptop at a price that may appeal to buyers on a budget.
The company’s Aspire 8930G-7665 laptop is designed as a gaming laptop or desktop replacement. The laptop is powered by Intel’s Core 2 Quad mobile processor with four cores that runs at up to 2.53GHz and includes 12MB of cache, according to Acer.
With a starting price of US$1,799, Acer’s laptop could be a bargain compared to expensive quad-core laptops from the world’s top PC vendors. Hewlett-Packard and Dell both offer quad-core laptops as either gaming laptops or mobile workstations with prices starting at over $2,000. Acer is the world’s third-largest PC vendor behind HP and Dell, according to analyst firm IDC.
The laptop includes an 18.4-inch screen that can display high-definition images and video. It also includes 4GB of RAM, Nvidia’s GeForce 9700M GT graphics card with 512MB of video memory, a 500GB hard drive, a Blu-ray Disc drive and Wi-Fi wireless networking. It comes preloaded with the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Premium OS.
The laptop is now available in the U.S. through retailers, the company said. Acer could not be immediately reached for comment on worldwide availability.

Sony Computer Entertainment has cut the cost of materials used to make its PlayStation 3 game console by 35 percent, according to market research firm iSuppli.
The components used to produce the second-generation of the PS3 console cost US$448.73, based on October component prices, iSuppli said, citing a recent teardown of the system it conducted to see what components are used inside. The market research firm then assembled a bill of materials based on that list of components and estimated prices to arrive at a system cost.
By comparison, the components used inside the first generation of the PS3 cost $690.23, based on mid-2007 prices, iSuppli said.
Sony makes a loss on the sale of each PlayStation 3 console, which sells for $400 on Amazon.com. But the loss Sony records for each console is narrowing, and the company may soon reach the break-even point, including other costs associated with manufacturing and sales.
“The PS3 may be able to break even in 2009 with further hardware revisions,” iSuppli said in a statement.
Sony managed to cut the material cost of the second-generation PlayStation 3 by using more advanced components. In particular, the consoles use a more advanced version of the Cell processor and other chips made using a 65-nanometer manufacturing process, instead of the older 90-nanometer process. This shift reduces unit manufacturing costs for each chip and lowers power consumption, which means Sony can use a less expensive power supply.
The number of components inside the PS3 has also been reduced, as functions previously handled by different chips have been combined in a single part, iSuppli said.

This method is recommended to prevent compatibility issue. You have an option to choose a default file format in Word 2007.
Follow instruction below :
• Click on Microsoft Office Button
• Click on “Word Options” button located on the lower-right of the menu.

Remark:
In Excel 2007, the option will be “Excel Options” instead. However, the configuration below is the same.
On the Word Options dialog
• Click on “Save” button in the left pane.
• Click on a combo box located to the right of “Save files in this format” text
• Choose “Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc)”. With this option, your new document will be saved, by default, in Word 97-2003 Document file format. This will minimize a compatibility issue between Word 2007 users and previous version users. Once finish, click OK button

Remark:
In Excel 2007, only one change is from Word 97-2003 Document(*.doc) to Excel 97-2003 (*.xls)
• Next time you click “Save”, the file format will be Word 97-2003 Document as a default. To verify this, you will see “[Compatibility Mode]” in the document title after saving it.
