7 Surefire Ways To Increase Your Traffic

by Admin on May 17, 2009

Google Buzz

If you already have a site and you think that you’re not getting the traffic that you’re supposed to be getting, then its time to reconsider. If you are contending in this very competitive business world, you should always be a step ahead of your competitors.

Timing is essential, that’s an old adage known to everyone. But with generating traffic, you should always be on your toes and be a day ahead of everyone. Never think of today and tomorrow as a starting point for making your site traffic laden, it should always have been yesterday.

To help you out in generating more traffic for your site, here are some seven surefire ways to increase your traffic starting from yesterday.

1) Invest in good advertising with search engines

Google’s Adwords and Yahoo’s Overture provide great advertising schemes that are very truly popular and assures great traffic. Although with this surefire way to increase your traffic would cost some money. While some would shy away from spending money to increase traffic, it is imperative in this case to do so because Adwords and Overture is the top surefire way to increase your traffic.

You could see for yourself the success these search engine advertising methods have reaped rewards for so many companies. Lots of sites feature these advertising systems and many have signed on to reap the benefits. Do not be left up behind. Every penny is worth it with using Google and Yahoo’s advertising.

2) Exchange or Trade Links with other sites

With exchanging links with other sites, both of you will benefit from the efforts both of you do to enhance your site’s traffic. When one site features another site’s link, they could provide one another with the traffic one site generates. The efforts are doubly beneficial because it would seem like both of you are working to generate more traffic. The more links traded with more sites the more traffic could be expected.

3) Use Viral Marketing

Viral marketing allows you to spread the word about your company and product without any costs or if ever low costs only. This is a marketing method that can be quite sneaky; you can attach your company’s name, product or link to a certain media such as a funny video, entertaining game, an interesting article or a gossip or buzz. With this method, people get infected with the creativity and entertainment of the medium that they will pass it on to many people.

4) Search and use proper keywords or keyword phrases for your sites content

Search engines look for certain keywords that they would show in their results page. In doing so, having the right keyword and keyword phrase is a high requirement in ranking in high in search engine results. You could write your own content or you could hire someone to do it for you.

5) Write Articles that can lead traffic to your site

Submit articles to sites that would contain the same subject that your site deals in. If you sell car parts write press releases and articles about cars and car parts. Attach your sites description and services at the end of the article as well as the link.

6) Join forums and form online communities

Capture a market and show your expertise and credibility. When you find a good foundation for your site, people will trust you and your site and will pass on to many people their trust. Traffic will certainly increase because they know that you can provide what they need.

7) Lastly, Offer newsletters.

If many people know what you are about and your existence is shared with many others, you will find a loyal traffic that can provide you with more traffic by recommendation. If you arouse the curiosity of your customers they would be pushed to help you with your traffic.

Links and SEO

by Admin on April 18, 2009

Google Buzz

Without links, we would not have the internet with websites, as we do today. Links can be linked and traded with websites many different ways.

Links are able to be optimized to help establish relevancy of a website for selected keywords. Optimizing keywords and keyword phases using links is an important part of Search Engine Optimization that is often under estimated and frequently overlooked.

Linking to other websites and trading links with other websites is a very important part of SEO, but how links are linked makes all of the difference in the world. Not only does the contact on the website matter, but how links are linked to other pages and other websites matters too.

The way that webmasters and SEO experts link web pages internally and externally with other websites and/or web pages, determines Google PageRank and the search engine placement for all sites on the internet. Of course, every search engine has a different algorithm, which is the method that they use to determine that which web site is ranked in 1st place, top 10, top 20, and so on. Just because a website is 1st place at Google.com today does not mean it will be 1st place at Google.com tomorrow.

All search engine algorithms have differences, but one thing that all search engines do have in common is; they are attempting to establish relevancy for search engine users. Which basically means; it is trying to give you what it thinks you want based on what you search for and how you search for it.

When someone wants to find something on the internet, typically they use a search engine to attempt to find it. Search engines do not know what we want when we search for something, but by using a complex algorithm, the search engine attempts to make a calculated guess.

Google keeps their algorithm a closely guarded secret. Knowing this formula would be the key to success for any search engine optimization expert and/or anyone that wants have a website listed at the top of Google.com

I personally think how links are linked matters more than the website or websites that they are linked to.

The most effective way to create links when trying to establish relevancy of keywords for to placement at search engines, is by using anchor text with relevant keywords and/or keyword phrases to link to pages with relevant content.

1st place at Google.com is best place to have a website listed when performing search engine optimization, so that is what everyone seems to “aim for.”

Top 10 at Google is not bad, but just not as nice as first place. However, if a web site is not within the top 20 results for the keywords that you have selected, then the chance of a potential customer or new visitors finding that site not very high. Experts say that most people do not look beyond the top 20 results of a search engine when performing a search to attempt to find something. Search engines often update their algorithms in an attempt to improve the logic that it uses to help people find what they want on the internet.

If you have any advice, questions, or comments about Links and SEO, feel free to post it or add to this information.

How important is the TITLE for SEO

by Admin on March 27, 2009

Google Buzz

The <title> element is THE most important on-page signal that Google considers in their ranking algorithm. I typically try to have pages focused on one targeted keyword phrase… but I will include 2 or 3 keyword phrases if they are closely related and slight variations of one another.

I always put the most important phrase at the begining of the <title>, then the 2nd and 3rd most important phrase, if applicable. Typically the deeper you drill into the site, the fewer the phrases that appear in my <titles> because the focus of the pages get more and more specific, moving from head terms to long tail to longer tail terms. So my <title> elements get more and more specific.

The <h1> element is the 2nd most important on-page factor that influences Google’s ranking algorithm. It’s a good strategy to include in the <h1> the most important keyword phrase (or a slight variation) from your <title> element. Use an <h1> on every page… Don’t waste this opportunity to reinforce your targeted keyword phrase from the <title>.

The <h2> element is the 3rd most important on-page factor. I typically have my pages broken up into little sections or components. I give each of these an <h2> element. Since there are typically 4,5,6 or more of these per page, I use them to reinforce not only the most important keyword phrase in the <title> but also the 2nd and 3rd keyword phrase from the <title>. I try to use all of the <title> keyword phrases as well as variations (different conjugations of verbs from title, singular vs. plural, etc.)

I try to work the most important keyword phrase from the <title> into my page name, so that my URL is keyword rich. But do it in such a way that the URL does not look spammy.

Picking good <title>, <h1>, <h2>,… elements can go a LONG way towards making a page rank. Unfortunately, on-page SEO alone will usually not lead to great rankings even for less competitive terms… You need inbound links, preferably from relevant pages, but definitely with the major keyword phrase(s) or variations of the keyword phrase(s) as the link text to take you the rest of the way to the finish line.

10 Common Website Traffic Myths

by Admin on March 13, 2009

Google Buzz

Due to the vast array of blogs out there talking about just how powerful traffic is for you, your blog and brand, you might be finding it difficult to find the tips or guides to using traffic to your benefit and not just for staring at. After all, if you don’t have any plans for monetizing your site or focusing on your brand during the peak traffic periods (not just spikes), you won’t be able to grow your site nor reach your long-term goals.

High blog traffic, or traffic anywhere except stalled on the highway, is something that everyone desires. With traffic, you are able to do nearly anything you want – it means that people are actively looking at your site, discovering what you have to offer. At this point, and only at this pint, they can decide whether they want to go further and “catch” onto the pitch that you tired to convey, the message that you tried to get across – that you wanted them to purchase or continue to read and subscribe to your blog or services.

While I cannot say that you will be able to use all of these tips, included are a few common misconceptions about traffic that you have to understand. I focus on ways people make mistakes, ways to fix them, and how to get a better understanding on your traffic.

Note: They are not all myths, but simply answers to common questions.

1. Traffic doesn’t grow by looking at stats.

This is probably one of the most commonly stated tips that people give in terms of traffic. When you are constantly looking at your stats and traffic, not just the trends, you are not only showing that you don’t want to see your blog grow, but you are also spending time unproductively. Although you can do this every once in a while to see how visitors come to your site and how long each stays, you shouldn’t do it every day. Instead, focus on what creates the most content, the goods, that people want to read, use, and enjoy.

2. Your readers don’t necessarily care how popular (traffic wise) your site is.

Taking a look at a collection of sites out there, you will generally find that most have a rather high popularity. However, this is not necessarily true for all sites, especially those that are able to cater to a more in-tune market that shares a better relationship with one another. In other words, community is larger than total popularity. With community, traffic builds, and with traffic, popularity builds, if you get the picture. This doesn’t happen for all sites. The prime example, Google, didn’t become successful due to a small user base, but because it naturally grew in popularity due to its usage and high traffic.

3. You don’t have to pay for traffic.

Most likely, you’ve heard of or seen people that were successful in purchasing traffic. Ultimately, if you have just started your blog, this method will fail due to the fact that you have no root, nothing to keep your readers from leaving. It might all add up to a few extra clicks if you have ads on your site, but nothing more. Essentially, purchasing traffic is a hit-or-miss thing until you are good at advertising correctly. And, for the most part, this works better once  you have the content base to support the claims that you may have made during your advertising campaign(s).

4. More work pays off.

As stated in the first tip, procrastinating content creation won’t help your blog grow. Instead, you need to be able to distinguish your site from others, being able to create more high-quality content on a more consistent basis. Let’s say that you spend an hour creating 10 100-word posts. They will only get you as far as the word and substance in those posts which, by most figures, won’t be too far. Rather, a single 1,000-word posts that you spend two hours or more on and include various forms of unique content representation that draws in your readers will help exponentially more than multiple, quick posts that you spend less time wirting.

5. Traffic naturally fluctuates.

An overview of your traffic and analytics might show that your traffic is decreasing, although, in another view, it has been increasing over the past week. Another person might tell you that your website is extremely popular while the next says that you have very few daily readers.

Drastically different answers like those illustrated above are seen everyday when people try to analyze traffic and form “comparable” figures of what the traffic really is. In reality, there  will likely never be a solution for finding the exact answers, no matter how many different services we were to look at. What you really need to know is that traffic changes everyday, although you should never see jumps of double digit percentages day after day.

6. Traffic exchanges don’t work as well as they say.

In a way, a traffic exchange is trying to offer you a service that only works in an ideal world, one where people are able to spend hours doing something that provides little to their benefit. For this reason, the traffic that has been promised is rarely delivered because people can’t spend time browsing sites or attending to their accounts.

In my opinion, they could work only if you spend a minimal amount of time with them and your blog has zero visitors – they would provide a starting point, in some ways.

7. Just because your bounce rate is high doesn’t mean that visitors don’t like your site.

A popular myth, bounce rate is simply an indication that your site’s layout or way you present content is better-than-average because the visitors don’t have to page through multiple pages or try to find what they are looking for. On the other hand, it means that you probably won’t be generating as many page views for advertisers paying you based on the number of impressions you deliver. The more content-rich your homepage and individual pages from search engines are, the more likely the visitor is to leave the page, but still retain some information about your site, which is generally the most important part.

8. Once you have established brand recognition, traffic becomes less important.

I might be going off on a limb with this idea, but when you develop your brand, people will retain what you offer far into the future, being able to go back to your site without having to search multiple queries just to find the site they were looking for. It’s what makes many of the top companies remain in business – the experience their customers had, even if it was only one time.

The traffic aspect won’t matter as much because these people will probably recommend your company, name, or services to others – a free marketing approach.

9. Traffic growth only results from a dramatic change.

Partially true, this means that unless you change a major portion of your marketing campaign, your layout, or what you are doing to draw in traffic, you won’t see any significant growth month-over-month. However, there are many examples of sites that haven’t changes since they were launched and are more popular today than ever. So, you just have to continue providing a reliable service and traffic should naturally increase, even without spending a dime on marketing or promoting your service (although time is a factor, like always).

10. More subscribers Does Not Mean More traffic.

While subscribers and traffic typically go hand in hand, sites that have in excess of 50,000 subscribers might only see a fraction of those people who visit their blog everyday, it not on a rare occurrence. Subscriptions have made it much easier to reduce the amount of traffic to your blog which, all in all, might be a good thing. It might mean less income from ad sales, but you are helping to balance traffic between multiple sources (unless you have a lot of images in your posts hosted on your server). This myth has been proven false dozens of times with various blogs.

How Google Adsense Detects Invalid Clicks?

by Admin on February 7, 2009

Google Buzz

Hi,

I just came to know how Google Adsense detects invalid clicks. I hope this is the very good information to avoid your Adsense websites from invalid clicks.

IP Address:
If the Adsense click is originated from the same IP Address as the one used for accessing your Adsense account, your account is flagged.

Cookies:
Most home users do not use static IP Address for Internet connection. In most cases just disconnect and reconnect will give you a new IP Address. But don’t forget, Google has set cookies on your computer.

Other Google Services:
Thinking that you are safe just because you do not access your Adsense account? Think again. This time, consider these: Gmail, Google Earth, Google Calendar, Google Search, Google Toolbar, Google Talk, Google Sitemap, Google Desktop, Blogger, and so on, and so on. With the wide range of services they provide, Google can trace the originator of most (or probably almost all) clicks.

Click Pattern 1:
Oh, why this computer / IP address / person is so trigger-click-happy on this particular website but never click on the ads on other sites?

Click Pattern 2:
And why is it that people accessing these sites direct (type-in URL or from bookmark) tend to be very active ad-clickers compared with those referred from search engine or other sites?

Click Pattern 3:
And why the ad-clickers like to hit and run, compared with non ad-clickers that surf a few pages before leaving?

Click-Through-Rate (CTR):
Your CTR may range from 0.5% to 10%, but if it exceeds a certain point (probably around 10%), you are flagged.

Geo-Location:
Used Urchin (Google Analytics) before? Then you should know that Google can trace traffics origin down to the small town. Different IP doesn’t mean much. Unless you site is really targeted to one small geo-point, a high number of clicks from nearby location will get you banned quickly.

Hardware address:
MAC address of the LAN card, modem, and router works almost like a fingerprint. I’m not sure if Google can track this, but probably they do. They have rocket scientist, remember?

Advertisers conversion rate:
Ad click is one thing. But does it bring value to the advertisers? If none of the clicks on your site translate to conversion to the advertiser, you are in trouble. First the Smart-Pricing hits, then your Adsense account disabled.

Search Engine Ranking:
Your website is not indexed on any search engine, not linked by any prominent website, but get consistently high traffic? That sounds like something is in play. Regardless of whether it is an adware-embedded software, spam, trojan clickbot, or intentionally installed click-exchange network, it doesn’t sound right.

Webpage Design:
How about the “click here” or “support us”? Google has the best search engine in the world. Is it really that hard to find those words?

Combo:
Each of these detection methods might seem rather weak. But combine them together, and not many click-fraud can pass-through these filters. Even the smartest clickbot will have a hard time.

In short, it is almost impossible to cheat Adsense in the long term. Instead of spending time, money, and effort trying to outsmart Google.

Please feel free to Post your comments or any of your knowledge abouth this topic.

Happy Blogging.

Tips to write Killer Articles

by Admin on February 7, 2009

Google Buzz

Many of us wonder what to be done to attract high quality traffic. The most important is, ofcourse, writing attractive articles which can make your site famous and ultimately increase site visitors. So, i will mention tips to write traffic increasing blog articles.

1. Good knowledge and research:

If you want to write an informative article, the first and foremost thing is good knowledge about article topic. So, select your article topic such that you can provide a fair good amount of knowledge to your readers from the article. I don’t say that you should be genius about the topic…but should have fair knowledge. This is also important as you have to answer queries raised by site visitors. You can use Google to achieve required knowledge. This is research part.

2. New content:

This is the crucial and i personally feel, the most important for any article to become killer and famous. Why?… I’ll tell you. If you have new informative content, site visitors would readily share it over various social networks and directories, making your site famous. Thus, it is new content that is important. New content implies you can even add your own experiences in your articles

3. Language:

Keep your article language reader friendly. I found this as one of main secrets of many successful bloggers. Just read any article at say “Problogger” , it is the Darren’s language that makes the article so captivating. Also, avoid slangs and sensitive words in your articles. Also, test out your spelling mistakes. This matters a lot as lot of spelling mistakes brings frustration and thus leads to failure of our goal. I accept, that even i am a bit weak at this.

4. Use lists:

Using lists in your articles helps reader to easily scan your articles. This not only saves time but also makes it readable.

5. Develop your own addicting style:

If you will succeed at this, i will say your sitemeter will be bombarded by thousands of hits each day. Develop your own style of writing articles which will make your readers addict and force them to return to your site again. This will help you in building loyal readership. But, take care that this style will give joy to readers. This usually is achieved as time passes and your experience in blogging grows. I recommend you to read various articles written by Darren at Problogger. I have even achieved my style by following and researching his style.

6. Be positive and hopeful:

This thing, i found, not considered by many bloggers. While reading the articles, always focus on positive aspects. I mean, give your readers a feeling of hope and positiveness while they reading your articles. Let them feel inspired while or after reading your blog posts.

7. Add your personal experiences:

I have mentioned this in second tip as well. Mentioning your personal experience helps in removing an alien/stranger gap between reader and the writer. This helped me a lot in achieving good readers cum friends. But, while adding your experience, just remember that this personal experience will be used by your readers to evaluate your persona. So, be careful.

8. Don’t include all information:

This may sound to be contradicting. Right? But, this is important to attract visitor interest in your article. Ask your visitors to share their views and tips by commenting. Now, if you have included all tips in article, there will not be any comments as visitors find their tips mentioned in article itself. Thus, their personal involvement decreases. So, leaving out simple points/tips helps in increasing comments and visitors involvement.

So, thats it. As said above, if you have your own views about killer articles, please mention it over here. I hope you find this article useful in writing a killer article.

Happy Blogging.
