GEVEY Sim Works on Apple iOS 5 [Video]

Hello folks! I got a chance to test-drive the new iOS 5. One of my developer friends white-listed my UDID with Apple servers. So, I got my hands on iTunes 10.5 Beta & iOS 5 Beta 1 for iPhone 4.

First thing I checked after updating to iOS 5 was the compatibility of GEVEY Sim with iOS 5. And it works. Yesterday, I reported that GEVEY 112 Exploit is still working on iOS 5.

And here’s the video I made showing the proof:

Here are the screenshots of the About page on my iPhone 4:

iOS 5 Settings iOS 5 Baseband

GEVEY Sim & GEVEY Pro will work on the current beta version of iOS 5. There’s still no public jailbreak available for iOS 5 Beta 1. So, I’m missing SBSettings & other tweaks. I think I’ll be downgrading back to 4.3.3 in a day or two.

Stay tuned for more news via Email or Twitter.

Pankaj,

GEVEY Sim works on iOS 5 beta 2 with lower baseband (04.10.01 or lower). So you’ll have to use sn0wbreeze or PwnageTool to build custom firmware.

Del,

Did you preserve baseband using sn0wbreeze? Or did you directly upgrade to iOS 5 via iTunes?

Fredrik,

Did you use sn0wbreeze to build custom firmware or directly updated to factory iOS 5? Please follow the steps in this post.

Fredrik October 13, 2011 at 2:12 pm

No, I didnt build custom firmware, do I need to downgrade my iphone now then?

Reply

Admin October 13, 2011 at 2:25 pm

Yes Fredrik, downgrade to 4.3.5 via iTunes directly. Apple might still be signing it.

Fredrik,

Open hosts file with a text editor

Mac: /etc/hosts
Windows: Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts

See if there is a line like this

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

If yes, remove it, save the hosts file & try restoring to 4.3.5 again via iTunes.

Mk,

Thank you so much for all your support! I could finally downgrade to iOS 4.3.5 after i removed 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com in Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts.

After that I installed iOS 5 again after watching your tutorial with snowbreeze. So now I finally got an Iphone with iOS 5 which i can call and text with. Thanks alot man! 5/5 stars for you!! 🙂

I’ve already updated my iPhone to iOS 5 04.11.08, I directly upgraded it through iTunes.
I tried to find the host ” 74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com” but it wasn’t listed.
Now I’m stuck with an iPhone which won’t call or anything, cause Gevey won’t connect to my operator. Please help!

Daniel,

You shouldn’t have update to iOS 5 directly. That updated your baseband also. You need your baseband to be 04.10.01 or below.

Now, restore to iOS 4.3.5 via iTunes directly. Then your baseband will downgrade to 04.10.01. Then build a custom firmware via sn0wbreeze. Here’s a tutorial for that.

MK,

I seriously need your help. I upgrade ios 5 directly from itunes, and Gevey Pro didn’t work. So, I download the 4.3.5 from this site

http://www.redmondpie.com/download-ios-4.3.5-for-iphone-4-3gs-ipad-2-1-and-pod-touch-direct-links/

However, I couldn’t downgrade from iOS 5 back to 4.3.5 even I went into Windows\System32\drivers\etc\hosts

there is no link like below to be removed:

74.208.10.249 gs.apple.com

Now my phone is not working at all :(( Please help !!!

You cannot go back to 4.3.5. Apple has stopped signing it. Unfortunately, you’ll be stuck with locked iPhone 4 now.

I lost all my apps by upgrading to iOS 5 or didn’t restore it correctly. This is mess up… so I guess I have to wait for GEVEY come up with the new product to unlock my iPhone/ iOS 5? please advice Shouldn’t upgraded in the 1st place. Everything was fine with 4.3.3 🙁

You must take backup in iTunes before restoring to a newer firmware. After restore, all your apps will then be re-installed by iTunes automatically. And if you want to use Gevey on iOS 5, you must build a custom firmware via sn0wbreeze which will preserve the baseband.

Sorry, I don’t really understand your reply. So, you are saying that I’m stuck with firmware: 04.11.08 & iOS 5 & a locked iPhone for now… until it can be unlocked again?

Sadly yes.

It’s fake. Don’t pay anyone for jailbreak or unlock.

I updated my Iphone to ios5 before seeing this. Can some send me/post the steps on how to downgrade. I really need help, I’m not sure how to downgrade using itunes or anything. . Thanks in advance.

Did you directly upgrade to iOS 5? This will have updated the baseband also. You cannot downgrade the baseband. If you’ve saved shsh of 4.3.3/4.3.5 then you can downgrade. But you won’t be able to downgrade the baseband.

Naren,

Now that you’ve upgraded to iOS 5 via iTunes directly, your iPhone’s baseband has also been upgraded. And Gevey doesn’t work on this updated baseband. And neither can you downgrade the baseband back to 04.10.01. Basically you’re stuck with a locked iPhone till a new unlock solution is released.
