[How To] Fix One Signal Bar Issue on iOS 4, iOS 5 & iOS 5.0.1

There are some issues with jailbroken iOS 4.x.x & iOS 5.0.1 iPhones. The iPhone shows just a single signal bar.

I recently unlocked my iPhone 4 with GEVEY and I also saw only 1 signal bar. Here’s how it looked:

Before ultrasn0w 1.2.1 fixer

So, I opened up Cydia, looked up for ultrasn0w 1.2.1 and installed it. And now the signal bars are quite good..

Before ultrasn0w 1.2.1 fixer

Ultrasn0w 1.2.1 unlocks the following basebands:

  • iPhone OS 3.0 » 04.26.08 » iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone OS 3.1 » 05.11.07 » iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone OS 3.1.2 » 05.11.07 » iPhone 3GS
  • iPhone OS 3.1.3 » 05.12.01 » iPhone 3GS
  • iOS 4.0 » 05.13.04 » iPhone 3GS
  • iOS 4.1 » 01.59.00 » iPhone 4
  • iOS 4.0.1 » 05.13.04 » iPhone 3GS
  • iOS 4.0.1 » 01.59.00 » iPhone 4
  • iOS 4.0.2 » 05.13.04 » iPhone 3GS
  • iOS 4.0.2 » 01.59.00 » iPhone 4
  • iOS 4.1 » 05.14.02 via 06.15.00 » iPhone 3GS
  • iOS 4.2 » 05.15.04 via 06.15.00 » iPhone 3GS
  • iOS 4.3 » 05.16.01 via 06.15.00 » iPhone 3GS
  • iOS 4.3.1 » 05.16.02 via 06.15.00 » iPhone 3GS

But the Ultrasn0w fixer 1.2.1 works with following basebands also:

  • iOS 4.1 » 02.10.04 » iPhone 4
  • iOS 4.2 » 03.10.01 » iPhone 4
  • iOS 4.2.1 » 03.10.01 » iPhone 4
  • iOS 4.3 » 04.10.01 » iPhone 4

Cydia is located in the repo http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com. Launch Cydia and install ultrasn0w 1.2.1 to fix one signal bar issue on the jailbroken iPhone 4. And, it works with GEVEY too 😉

Update: Using ultrasn0w with GEVEY causes more battery drainage. So, I suggest you not to install it.

The one signal bar issue is just cosmetic. Internally, your iPhone 4 might have a good signal strength. And, you cannot upgrade the baseband to 03.10.01 or 04.10.01, because Apple has stopped signing iOS 4.x.x. If you’re already on baseband 03.10.01 or 04.10.01, you won’t face one signal bar issue on your iPhone 4.

Yes this works. However, MMS, FaceTime and Visual Voicemail do not work with ultrasn0w if you are on ATT USA using baseband 01.59.00.

I would rather have these features then show my correct signal.

Gevey FAQ states that you cannot use Gevey Sim hack on a custom firmware iOS device which in my opinion is basically a jailbroken firmware. How did you jailbreak yours?

Can you provide the details of which ios version, exactly which ipsw & bb you are using and where did you download it from.

Thanks

You can use GEVEY on custom fw.. I’m using on iOS 4.3.1 with baseband 02.10.04.. I used sn0wbreeze. I’ve already posted a tutorial for using sn0wbreeze for iOS 4.3.1 here in my blog..

You mean you are getting one signal bar on your iPhone? Did you install the latest version of ultrasn0w from Cydia? The latest version is 1.2.1

Hey there,

I can never seem to get full signal bars up either, but this usually happens only after I try texting – it unlocks fine by the usual method. Calling is fine too, but once I try sending a text; sending fails, it goes down to one signal bar, then the no sim card dialog box opens up and I have to repeat the unlock over again.

Any help at all would be appreciated!

Which iOS you are on? Have you tried resetting network settings? Or performing a hard reset?

How did you manage to get Idea sim working through Gevey? I have a Gevey card too but Idea doesn’t hold the signal. It shows up the service provider name for a few seconds & then simply gives an error – invalid sim. I’ve tried three different Idea sim cards & all had the same issue. All other service provider cards like airtel, vodafone, etc. are working fine. Pl advice.

It should work. I’ve been using Idea sim from past one month. No problems at all. Have you tried placing the sim properly over the GEVEY chip?

I have tried the latest ultrasn0w (1.2.3) but it still use much more battery so I turned back to the one signal bar issu. I’ve learned that my iPhone works well but still have to wait for a better solution.
Admin, thanks your work!

Yes ultrasn0w works perfect in resolving network bar issue. But battery drainage is more.

I have a problem with the Gevey Turbo Sim too. My iPhone 4 gets signal for a second, or if I’m lucky, for half an hour. Then it tells me “no sim” or “no service” or some other error. What can I do? Thank you!

Hi,

Try network reset from settings or do a hard reset by holding home + power button for 10 seconds. Then try the 112 procedure again. Make sure your sim card is properly placed over the GEVEY chip.

I have the same issue, after unlocking it with the Gevey pro i only get a one signal bar. But after installing the ultrasnow 1.2.3 the signal bar issue is fixed but it seems my battery drain pretty fast. I have a 2.10.04bb and version 4.3.3

Yes. If you install ultrasn0w, you’ll lose more battery.
