7 Ways to Avoid Blogger Burnout

Blogging isn’t an easy task. Creating relevant and inspiring content on a daily basis is exhausting, and no blogger—not even the best out there—is exempt from blogging burnout. It happens, it’s normal, and it’s easily fixed.

Here are 7 tried-and-true tips I use to avoid blogger burnout.

1. Schedule your Posts

The easiest way to avoid burnout is to take a chunk of time to write several blog posts and then schedule them to post throughout the week. Not even the most ambitious blogger has the time to post every day, so if you write your posts ahead of time, you’ll be all set for the week, giving you plenty of time to brainstorm for next week’s content.

Additionally, with a set chunk of blogging time, you’ll be able to focus knowing you’ve dedicated that time to blogging. Your writing will flow more easily and your posts will feel less strained if you allot yourself set blogging time.

2. Focus on Quality over Quantity

How often you post is entirely up to you. If writing 5 days a week is too much, try writing 3 days only, focusing on the quality of your content over the quantity. Readers come back for engaging content, and if the quality of your posts suffers, it won’t matter how many times you post—your readers just won’t be interested.

3. Create a Series

If you’re having a hard time coming up with post ideas, try and think of a weekly or monthly series idea. That way you always have a set topic you can blog about, and it will be easier to brainstorm ideas for the post. Series also give your blog a schedule, letting readers know what to expect from you each week.

4. Swap Guest Posts

Find a fellow blogger and offer to swap guest posts! This allows you to not only swap readerships, but it also allows you to create a different kind of content for a new audience, which can be very therapeutic. When asking others to guest post on your blog, be sure to provide a topic and guidelines to make it easier for them to understand your expectations.

5. Rework old Posts

There’s nothing wrong with reworking an old post with a new spin or even creating a sort of “best of” list with past posts. You might find all the posts you’ve written on a specific topic and put them all together in one post as a convenience to your readers. Or you could do a monthly recap where you list your favorite posts from the month. This will also help your traffic as readers click around your site.

6. Keep a Notebook of Ideas

Keep a small notebook with you at all times to jot down post ideas that might come to you. Take it with you to work, school, or the store and always have a pen handy so you can record those flashes of inspiration that come to you. Then, when you sit down to blog, you’ll have a whole flood of ideas to inspire you.

7. Take a Break

Sometimes you just need a break. If you’re feeling particularly burned out, just take a week or so off from blogging. Then you can come back to your blog feeling fully refreshed with a new perspective on where you want to go with it.

This would mean that there will be more bloggers than other (paid) sites. This means, your blog has a lesser chance of being read. Also, if there are any mishaps (read: lost blog), you cannot call anybody for help. Word of advice: shell out the $7. It is not much on your pocket, but it could sure do lots for your site.
  4. First impressions. It is advised to be creative and quirky in your blogs. You do not want your readers to fall asleep while reading, do you? Be creative. Be fun. But, do not deviate from your offered product or service. Usually, you can have a really playful layout, and add features that allow users to leave comments or interact with you. That way, their first impressions of your blog will be sustained. And hopefully, their interactions with you will result to a sale.
  5. Promote, promote, promote! If you already have your blog, remember to promote your site to increase your traffic. Recommend your site to friends on social networking sites. Ask them to recommend it to their friends too. Do not just post your blog and pray that someone visits your site. Take action and go online.

Put these things to heart, and be ready to post your first blog. If all goes well, you might have your sale faster than you can post your next entry.
