5 Reasons You Should Be Guest Posting

by Mahesh Kukreja on November 22, 2011

This is a guest post! If you want to write for us, check out the Guest Post section.

If you are a blogger or a site owner, then you probably spend a lot of your time finding topic ideas, researching sources for your content, writing your posts, and interacting with your readers.  So, just why would you ever want to dip into your precious site maintenance and writing time in order to contribute to someone else’s site?

Guest Blogging

There are many reasons why, and if you don’t know them, you could be seriously stunting your site.  Here are five reasons you should be guest posting:

Attracting traffic to your own site

When you write quality content as a guest poster, and contribute to an outside site in an impressive and considerate way, there is no doubt that you will win over some of that site’s visitors who are curious to find out more about you and your site.  When you attract visitors from other sites via your guest posts, you know that they are quality visitors who are genuinely interested in your site and who are likely to subscribe, which is much preferable to random visitors who will hit and run, never to return.

Backlinks

Backlinks (links to your site from other sites) are an integral part of search engine optimization (SEO), which means the more backlinks there are leading to your site, the higher your site will rank with the search engines.  Guest posting creates backlinks to your sites, therefore improving your site’s SEO.

Your brand

When it comes to online marketing, branding is everything.  You must establish yourself as a recognizable entity.  When you guest post, you present yourself as an expert, and the more credible you appear to readers, the stronger your brand.

Networking

When you guest post for someone else’s site, you build a rapport with the site owner.  This type of networking can lead to a multitude of advantages, including more guest posting opportunities, backlinks, exposure and brand recognition.

Personal development

Although you should always guest post only for sites that are somehow related to the expertise you have to offer (and likely your site’s niche), you should also always tailor your guest posts to the sites you are writing for.  That means you may be writing for an audience you are not familiar with, or addressing a topic that is new to you.  This can be a great opportunity to broaden your horizons as a writer and grow as a site developer.

If you run a blog or any other website, then you really should be guest posting.  These reasons why should be convincing enough to inspire you to get out there and find some guest posting opportunities and grow your site.

Tips for Networking as a Blogger

by Mahesh Kukreja on July 8, 2011

Blogging is a virtual business which requires much networking. Bloggers who fail to network will soon be out of business. Networking, if done correctly, has many benefits. It will allow you to:

  • Meet other bloggers and establish relationships
  • Drive traffic to your blog
  • Get inspiration for new posts
  • Learn how to improve your blog
  • Have fun!

Networking as a Blogger

So how can you get started? The following are some great ways of networking.

LinkedIn

Many people don’t think of LinkedIn when it comes to meeting new people or promoting a blog. However, LinkedIn offers a great group feature. Once you have set up your profile, go to the groups directory. Look for keywords that are relevant to your blog. Some groups require approval to join, while others are open. Once you join a group, you can initiate or participate n discussions taking place. However, don’t just paste a link to your blog and leave. Build relationships with people before talking business.

Twitter

Twitter is one of the best places for bloggers to network. There are numerous conversations always going on that you can participate in. Another great way of networking on twitter is through chats. One of the best chats, particularly for bloggers, is #blogchat. This is a great place to network and learn much from other bloggers.

Facebook

Bloggers can network on Facebook through groups, as well as pages. Find a group or page that is relevant to your niche and participate in some discussions.

Commenting

Once you meet people in various forums, go further and begin posting comments on their blogs. This way, you are not only interacting with them, but also with their readers. This opens up more doors for business. Continue doing this as you meet more new people.

Guest posts

Guest posting is useful in two ways. It will direct traffic to your blog, as well as introduce you to some readers you have never met before. By visiting their blogs and responding to their comments, you can build relationships with them. They are very likely to return the favor. Therefore, guest posting is crucial for your blog’s success.

Sharing

Sharing other people’s content with your readers is another great way of networking. The blogger whose content you have shared is very likely to visit your blog in return, and might also find something interesting to share. Having your content shared will then result in building more traffic to your blog.

Facebook Blocked in Iran Ahead of Elections

by Mahesh Kukreja on May 25, 2009

Social networking site Facebook has been blocked in Iran since Saturday, according to the country’s opposition, as opposition voters increasingly turn to online tools like social networking to promote their candidates.

Iran will hold elections in June for a new president.

Lacking other suitable media, youth in Iran were using Facebook to promote opposition candidates, and to convince people to participate in the elections, Mohammad Ali Abtahi, a former vice president of Iran and a reformist politician, said in a post on his blog.

Abtahi blamed supporters of current president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for blocking Facebook.

Facebook, blogs and similar websites are a key component of the election strategy of reformist candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi as he tries to mobilize Iran’s youth.

There is an account on Facebook in the name of Mousavi which claims over 6,600 supporters, besides a number of other accounts that are mobilizing support for the candidate.

Some reports from Iran suggest that the ban on Facebook may have been lifted. Other bloggers and users of Twitter in Iran are worried that these services may also be cut off.
