I just laid my hands on a super cool video converter called Movavi Video Converter. Movavi video converter lets you convert videos for more than 200 devices including iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch, Android phones, Nokia, Windows Phone 7, XBox 360 and many more. I first present you with some features of Movavi in brief. The tutorial for converting videos using Movavi is after the break.

Features of Movavi Video Converter

Movavi is a simple-to-use video converter. The main feature of this converter is that it makes full utilization of nVidia GPU (Graphics Processing Unit) installed on your PC or Mac. My XPS 15z has nVidia GT 525M GPU which has a technology known as CUDA. This gives applications the power to utilize GPU memory for its processing. This in turn affects the performance and speed of Movavi by a great leap! When I tried the converter, it actually converted a 5:21 minute video in less than 2 minutes by utilizing 1 GHz nVidia GT 525M GPU.

Movavi - GPU Utilization

Next, Movavi video converter supports more than 170 formats including FLV, MP4, AVI, DAT, MOV, VOB, 3GP & MP3. Also, you can convert videos for devices like Android Phones, Amazon Kindle, Apple, Blackberry, Dell, Epson, HP, HTC, Nokia, Palm, etc.

Movavi - Devices

Apart from the default preset formats, users can also tweak the Audio/Video output preferences depending on their needs.

How To Convert Videos for your iPhone or Any Mobile/Tablet using Movavi?

This tutorial shows how you can convert videos for your iPhone. But you can convert videos for any other mobile device or tablet by choosing the appropriate preset.

1. Download Movavi Video Converter & install it. The demo version comes with a 30-day trial & the full version costs $49.99 (It’s priced at $29.95 till 25th December, 2011)

2. Launch the installed application & select the video file which you want to convert

 Movavi Video Converter

Also select the preset. For this tutorial, I selected “iPhone 4 (1280×720, H.264) (*mp4)

Movavi Preset Selection

You can select any other preset according to your device.

Note: The presets which are supported by nVidia CUDA are marked with a nVidia CUDA logo

3. Next click Convert to convert the video for your iPhone or any other mobile device or tablet. If you’ve a nVidia CUDA GPU, the video will be converted in a very less time. The output video is saved at the location marked by Destination

The video which I converted was originally 128 MB in size. The output video (in mp4 format) was about 85 MB in size. And here are two screenshots of the video running on my iPhone 4

Britney Spears - Criminal

I must say, the quality of the converted video is quite good. And if you’re a video junky, I strongly recommend you to buy Movavi video converter. Of course, you can try a 30-day trial version before buying.

Apple iPhone 4S vs. Samsung Galaxy S II

by Mahesh Kukreja on October 5, 2011

Apple announced the iPhone 4S on October 4th. We were hoping to get a complete upgrade including a bigger display and an aluminum back. But, Apple has retained the external design of iPhone 4 with internal hardware modifications.

Samsung Galaxy S II has been available since April 2011. It was recently launched in the US on AT&T.

I’ve chosen Samsung Galaxy S II to compare with iPhone 4S. Samsung Galaxy S II has quite good features to compare with Apple’s iPhone.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy S II has a better screen size & a 1.2 GHz CPU. Also, it has 1 GB RAN. But iPhone 4S has a dual core GPU that gives 7x more performance than iPhone 4. The primary camera of the 4S sports a CMOS sensor with better lighting. The secondary camera on iPhone 4S is just VGA while Galaxy S II has a 2 megapixel secondary camera.

Also, iPhone 4S has 960 x 640 display resolution with only 800 x 480 on Galaxy S II. Galaxy S II also sports a Gorilla glass. iPhone 4S doesn’t have a Gorilla glass but the quality is nearly the same as that of a Gorilla glass.

Not to forget, Apple iPhone 4S comes with iOS 5 which has more than 200 new features than iOS 4. Large number of apps are available for the iPhone 4S. Galaxy S II comes with Android 2.3.4. It also has good number of apps and games.

In the end, I’d like to say there’s a big competition between iPhone 4S and Galaxy S II. There’s not much difference between the prices of both these devices. If you’re a loyal Apple fan, then you can go for iPhone 4S. But, if you’d like to try something new, you can buy Samsung Galaxy S II.

2010 Year in review: Top 4 Tablets compared

by Mahesh Kukreja on December 31, 2010

It’s the last day of the year 2010. And I’ve made a post which compares 4 Tablets available out there, the Apple iPad, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Dell Streak and BlackBerry PlayBook..

Dimensions

RANKING: 1. Dell Streak | 2. Samsung Galaxy Tab | 3. BlackBerry PlayBook | 4. Apple iPad

Dell Streak

With a 5 inch screen size, Dell Streak is the lightest (weighing 220 g) tablet cum smartphone available. Both the Samsung Galaxy Tab and BlackBerry PlayBook come with a screen size of 7 inches. The iPad has the biggest display with a size of around 9 inches. And the iPad is also heftier than other tablets out there weighing about 1.5 pounds.

Speed

RANKING: DRAW

Apple iPad

All the 4 tablets consist of a 1 GHz processor. The Dell Streak consists of 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor. The Samsung Galaxy Tab comes with a Cortex A8 processor. The iPad boasts Apple’s A4 1 GHz processor. And the BlackBerry PlayBook has a 1 GHz dual-core processor.

Operating System

RANKING: 1. Samsung Galaxy Tab | 2. Apple iPad | 3. Dell Streak | 4. BlackBerry PlayBook

I ranked Samsung Galaxy Tab to be number 1 because it’s running Android 2.2. And, I think Android has the potential to come to the top very soon. Apple’s iOS is currently the most advanced OS for Tablets and Smartphones. Dell Streak again comes with Android 1.6 (which is upgradable to 2.2). The BlackBerry PlayBook comes with BlackBerry Tablet OS.

Features & Functions

RANKING: 1. BlackBerry PlayBook | 2. Samsung Galaxy Tab | 3. Dell Streak | 4. Apple iPad

BlackBerry PlayBook

The upcoming BlackBerry’s PlayBook has the top features. It consists of dual HD cameras, micro-USB, micro-HDMI connectors. The Galaxy Tab and Dell Streak also consist of dual cameras and expandable memory. The iPad has only fixed memory (upto 64 GB) and no camera. The Streak wins the camera option as it has a 5 MP camera. It’s good for picture takers.

Apps

RANKING: 1. Apple iPad | 2. Samsung Galaxy Tab | 3. Dell Streak | 4. BlackBerry PlayBook

When it comes to the applications and games that can be installed on the device, the Apple’s iPad comes out to be a winner. There are many more applications available for the iPad than it’s Android rivals and the BlackBerry. Many more applications in the Android store have not been optimized for the tablets yet (Yes! That sucks). But, don’t worry, the Android market has thousands of applications if you get an Android tab. The BlackBerry’s tablet has not yet been released, but when it will be released, BlackBerry claims to have a rich ecosystem of apps.

Performance

RANKING: 1. Apple iPad | 2. Samsung Galaxy Tab | 3. BlackBerry PlayBook | 4. Dell Streak

Samsung Galaxy Tab

Apple’s large screen and it’s multitasking iOS has helped it to perform much better than the other tablets. From reading books to playing games, the iPad is much better. The Samsung Galaxy Tab comes second, with it’s excellent display and the ability to play high-definition videos.

BlackBerry  also claims PlayBook to have a high performance multimedia. And, not to forget, PlayBook comes with BlackBerry services.

In terms of battery life, Apple iPad leads. But, the Dell Streak also doesn’t stay back, as it is a small device. All the devices come with Bluetooth and Wi-fi.

Value for Money

RANKING: 1. Apple iPad | 2. BlackBerry PlayBook | 3. Dell Streak | 4. Samsung Galaxy Tab

The Apple iPad starts with a price tag of $499. Then comes PlayBook, rumors say it’s gonna start pricing at $399. The Dell Streak comes for around $560 and Galaxy Tab is priced at $660 approx.

Conclusion

So, which is the best tablet of them all. It’s left upto you to decide based on your requirements. If you love iOS or RIM’s services, then iPad or PlayBook is best. If you want tablet cum smartphone, Dell Streak is a good option for you. And if you love Android and can wait for the Android market to improve, Galaxy Tab is good for you.

Samsung to launch Three Android powered Smartphones

by Mahesh Kukreja on April 9, 2009

Samsung has confirmed plans to release Android phones, according to a recent story in Forbes. Dr. Won-Pyo Hong, executive vice president of global product strategy in the mobile communications division, told the magazine during the recent CTIA trade show in Las Vegas that the company will release several handsets using the Google-backed, open-source operating system.

The first of the devices will be launched in June outside the U.S. Hong confirmed that two other Android devices will be released in the U.S. during the second half of 2009.

Sprint and T-Mobile

In the U.S., the Samsung executive said, each of the phones will be different because of the needs of the carrier partners, each of whom will sell one model. The carriers, Sprint Nextel and T-Mobile, are both members of the Open Handset Alliance, formed to promote Android.

T-Mobile sells the only major Android-based phone on the market, the G1, and there were reports this weekend that it is expanding its commitment to the mobile platform by developing a home phone and a small tablet computer, among other devices, that will be based on Android.

There have also been reports that computer maker Hewlett-Packard is looking at Android for possible use in a line of netbooks. In addition to the possible branching of Android into non-phone devices, the OS is also beginning to evolve into versions that are Android-based and Google-branded, and others that don’t emphasize Google.

Hong told Forbes that the Samsung Android phones will not be Google-centric, as T-Mobile’s G1 is, but Android-centric.

‘One of the Major Mobile Platforms’

Avi Greengart, an analyst with industry research firm Current Analysis, noted that, although Samsung had been saying for a while that it intended to release Android devices this year, there was disappointment when no announcement was made at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February.

There had been reports that Samsung would release its Android devices at that show, but company executives said they had never planned to do so. The Barcelona show ended up dampening the Android fervor a bit, as expectations had run high that such devices would steal the show, and Windows Mobile attracted much of the spotlight.

Greengart said he expects to see at least a dozen different Android-based handsets released from various manufacturers. Even though there is currently only one major device, Greengart said, the OS has already become “one of the major mobile platforms.”

Other Android devices should soon be appearing. For instance, the Chinese telecommunications company Huawei has announced that it will sell as many as three Android-based devices this year under the brand names of the carrier partners. HTC, manufacturer of the G1 from T-Mobile, is planning to release the tablet-styled HTC Magic with Vodafone in several European countries. Sony Ericsson and others have also announced they will release Android devices.
