Untethered Jailbreak for iOS 5.1.1 was released recently. @ih8sn0w also released sn0wbreeze 2.9.4 to support baseband preservation on iOS 5.1.1. And if you’re a Gevey sim user, then you can preserve the baseband and update to iOS 5.1.1. Gevey works perfectly fine on iOS 5.1.1.
You can also use Gevey Ultra & install FuriousMod 2.0 for untethered unlock. Add repo http://cydia.furiousmod.com to install FuriousMod 2.0.

My iPhone 4 GSM model is currently untethered on iOS 5.0.1 with preserved baseband 2.10.04 unlocked with a GEVEY Sim. I would just like to ask if any of you tried to upgrade to iOS 5.1.1 with 2.10.04 baseband and experienced the “one bar signal” problem when unlocking with a GEVEY Sim, because I experienced it when I upgraded to 5.0.1, luckily there’s a fix, I installed ultrasn0w, but I am experiencing battery drain problems. I would just want to be sure before I upgrade.
You’ll face one signal bar issue on iOS 5.1.1 as well because of 02.10.04 baseband. But this issue is only cosmetic. Installing ultrasn0w fixes the issue, but battery drains more.
Thanks for the reply. I have safely upgraded to iOS 5.1.1 using snowbreeze and installed ultrasnow, and yes battery drains more, looks like I just need to bare with it until an alternative fix comes out.

That’s only cosmetic issue. If you want to fix this issue, then you must install ultrasn0w from Cydia.

Gevey Ultra works with iOS 5.1.1 preserved baseband. You’ll get 1 signal bar since you’ve 02.10.04 baseband. And yes if you perform manual unlock, you need to dial 112 everytime the iPhone reboots.
I just installed FuriousMod 2.1.0, that should work with iOS 5.1.1 for an automatic unlock..

Hi. I bought an iPhone 4 with iOS 5.1.1 with jailbreak but it’s locked on some german carrier. I wanted to remove jailbreak and i used iTunes for restore but now… because of the invalid SIM message i can’t finish the initial setup. I asked on some service about this and they told me that they can’t unlock my phone because it’s coded in Germany. My only solution it seems to be with the Gevey SIM but because of the iOS 5.1.1 it’s complicated. I don’t know if this type of Gevey exists… Can you tell me some other option ? And what about the neverlock method (i’m kind of noob in this things)

You’re getting an invalid sim error because you need the German carrier’s sim to activate your iPhone 4 after restore. Now the workaround is to use sn0wbreeze to hacktivate your iPhone 4 or buy the German carrier’s sim from sites like eBay.
Secondly, Gevey is not compatible with the latest baseband that is installed with iOS 5.1.1. So basically you’re stuck with a locked iPhone. There is no ETA for the unlock. People have been waiting since last October for the unlock for newer basebands. The only solution to this is to officially unlock your iPhone 4.

sn0wbreeze is used to create custom IPSW to preserve the baseband so that Gevey can be used on newer iOS versions like iOS 5.1.1. Without Gevey your iPhone is useless. If you don’t want to use Gevey, you can try to contact the carrier and get a factory unlock.

Perform hard reset/network reset. then insert Gevey Ultra + GSM sim & reboot.
did the thing many times but unfortunately still no service 🙁
Uninstall furious mod, restart iphone, and perform 112 procedure again irrespective of ur r getting no network and wait for 2 min for signal. Furious mod doesnot work with 5.1.1.

Try the manual procedure by dialing 112 & see if you get the network. And are you sure that you’ve installed the right version of FuriousMod?

Since your iPhone already came with iOS 5.1.1, the baseband will be 04.12.01. There is no unlock for this baseband. And it cannot be downgraded. The only solution is to get your iPhone factory unlocked.

There is no unlock for 04.12.01 baseband. The only solution is to factory unlock your iPhone.

Find the carrier and then search on the Internet. I met some “experts” that told me that on Germany it doesn’t exist an official unlock and they were talkin shit.
I had the same problem with an iPhone 4 locked on T-Mobile Germany (baseband 04.12.01) and I officially unlocked it and everything is ok now, i can use it. It’s the only solution that works on this baseband.

This is the problem. Go on a mobile service and ask if they can find on which carrier is your phone locked. Mention that you know the origin country is Canada. After you find this you have to know if they can help you with this problem. Personally i found a solution to unlock my iPhone on the Internet.

Is iTunes showing you any specific error? Try to restore again. But try fast, since Apple will stop signing iOS 5.1.1 soon.

If you want to get your iPhone 4S unlocked, then contact the carrier to which your iPhone is locked to (AT&T, Verizon or Sprint). Redsn0w cannot unlock your iPhone. It will just jailbreak it. If you don’t get your iPhone factory unlocked then you’ll need to use Gevey sim.
