GEVEY Sim works on iOS 5 Beta 3 with Preserved Baseband

Apple seeded iOS 5 Beta 3 to developers yesterday. GEVEY Sim worked without any flaws on iOS 5 Beta 1. But, Apple patched the 112 exploit in iOS 5 Beta 2 with baseband upgrade. Yet, if you preserved your baseband and updated to iOS 5 Beta 2, GEVEY Sim worked.

Now, with the release of iOS 5 Beta 3, many iPhone 4 users may be wondering whether GEVEY Sim works on it, because GEVEY Sim is one of the possible hardware unlock solutions currently available for iPhone 4.

And the good news is yes. GEVEY Sim works on customized iOS 5 Beta 3, meaning that you preserve your baseband to 02.10.04, 03.10.01 or 04.10.01. This can be done with the recently released sn0wbreeze 2.8b4 for Windows. GEVEY Sim will not work on factory iOS 5 Beta 3. So, if you’re using MAC, you can borrow your friend’s PC to build a custom iOS 5 Beta 3 IPSW and then restore on MAC using iTunes.

A Twitter friend of mine, @w2no passed me the tip and some screenshots of his (un)locked iPhone 4 running iOS 5 Beta 3 using GEVEY Sim.

iOS 5 Beta 3 is currently available only to Developers registered with Apple. iOS 5 Beta 3 will be available to the general public in August/September this year. So, if you would like to use GEVEY on your iPhone 4 running iOS 5, do not upgrade to factory iOS 5 using iTunes. Instead use sn0wbreeze (Windows) or PwnageTool (MAC) to create a custom firmware and make sure your iPhone 4 baseband is 01.59.00 or 02.10.04 or 03.10.01 or 04.10.01.

Stay tuned for the updates!
