Rebel Micro Sim for iPhone 4 – Complete Review

Rebel Sim card is one of the methods available for unlocking iPhone 4. Many users have not yet got the Rebel sim. The sims are still in transit. @BIGAPPtipidcp is one of the few lucky persons who has got Rebel sims. He ordered about 10-12 Rebel Sims. He has posted a video review about Rebel sims and he sounds quite disappointed. He ordered Rebel Sim from RebelSimCard.com which is located in UK. But he got his consignment from HongKong.

The video is after the break. I’ll start with the review first. Firstly, the packaging of Rebel Sim is quite good. Here are the package contents:

  • 2 Micro Sim Adapter Templates/Stickers
  • Sim Tray Remover
  • Micro Sim to Regular Sim Adapter
  • 1 Mini SIM
  • Rebel Sim Chip
  • Sim Tray

Now the biggest shock comes. The Sim tray included in the package is actually a GEVEY sim tray. The engraved words have been sanded off.

Rebel Sim Tray

The Rebel Sim chip is same as that of GEVEY, with a little change in circuit design.

Rebel Sim IC

Rebel sim isn’t the same as it was demonstrated previously on Rebel’s site. The IC chip is larger as that of GEVEY. So you’ve to trim your sim a little bit so it fits properly in the sim tray.

Rebel IC

Also, Rebel Sim is much thicker than GEVEY sim. So you can face difficulty in pushing the sim tray inside the iPhone. GEVEY Sim slides easily inside the iPhone. The IC of Rebel Sim is also thicker.

Rebel sim - thicker

Now, when you insert Rebel sim in iPhone 4, you get 1 signal bar, then the status bar changes to Searching… It should be picking up signal immediately, as demonstrated by Rebel Sim Video.. but in vain. You see No Service in a few seconds. Then again 1 signal bar appears, then you need to dial 112 and follow the same GEVEY procedure. Also, iPhone does not regain signal after restarting.

Rebel Sim Tray

Now, the only difference between GEVEY and Rebel Sim is that you don’t get a Welcome Menu in Rebel Sim. Everything else is same. It is not untethered as demonstrated previously. Rebel Sim is just a waste of money. GEVEY Pro is for $35, whereas Rebel sim is for about $70.

Also, @BIGAPPtipidcp talked to Rebel customer care and they were quite un-helpful. Instead they abused him while he asked for refund.

Conclusion:

If you’re waiting to unlock your iPhone 4, I suggest you buy GEVEY Pro from ApplenBerry.com. Rebel Sim is just a waste of time and money. If you bought Rebel Sim, feel free to share your experiences below..

Rebel Micro Sim arrived in mail today. I ordered two for two phones. Both with baseband 02.10.04. One with 4.1 and one with 4.2.3 installed.

Package was very professional looking. Came with rubber iphone case, stylus pen, Sim programmer, iphone clear screen protector and micro sims with tray.

1. My Sim wouldn’t fit in the tray with the rebel sim so using a nail file I shaved off the edge of my Sim to fit.

2. Put Sim in and rebooted. Showed one bar but no network or carrier. Followed directions to dial 112 and then turn airplane mode on and off.

3. After turning airplane mode on it said searching and this went on for about a minute or so and then said No Service. I followed steps above again and rebooted and no success. Did this with both phones and neither worked. Never got a carrier signal.

4. Went to Rebel Sim site to download firmware micro sim using this link… http://rebelsimcard.com/index.php?di…tachment_id=68 … but link doesnt work. Was going to try and reprogram rebel sims with programmer provided but without software I can’t

5. I emailed them to tell them it is not working and to request they email me the software zip file so I can try and reinstall or install the proper firmware on Rebel Sim. I have no idea if it comes installed to work or not but certainly the rebel sims are not working.

Very disappointed. If anyone has any suggestions or success with their orders I would appreciate a heads up.

Thanks

Jake

Hi,

If your iPhone is on AT&T network, then it cannot be unlocked through IMEI. Only UK based and some Australian based carriers offer this type of unlock. AT&T doesn’t offer factory unlock. Don’t risk giving out your IMEI just like that.

I should have seen this before ordering the sim…… I got the sim tray yesterday (5/12)… and very disappointed about the quality. As the same, seems like my sim is not in the 60% which I have to dial 112 as wall. I’ve tried over 20 times, but only twice worked. By seeing your post of the customer service, I don’t know if I can get my money back….. in a polite way. Thanks for sending the message out so at least I know I’m not the only one going through this…

Hi,

Sorry to hear about this. You can open a PayPal dispute to get your money back.

Thanks! Can you tell me more about filing forms on paypal?? I’ve filed one claim on paypal, but I don’t know what categories I should choose.. I’m saying that while I was choosing reasons, I didn’t find a suitable reason for me to ask for a full refund… Thanks!!

You must select something like or related to “Product not as described”. I haven’t opened any disputes with PayPal, so I don’t know exactly.

Just got my rebel sim card last weekend. I followed the instructions from Rebel and got my AT&T sim locked Iphone 4 working! Important is that you reset the networksettings before you dial 112. Unfortunately, it is NOT untethered!

i just got my rebel micro simcard. i followed all instructions and also contacted tech support. IT DOES NOT WORK!! please do not buy. if you ask for a refund, they will NOT refund shipping and WILL charge 15% restocking.

seems like there is no way for the device to work outside of UK O2 services.

I have a rebel sim for my Iphone 4, BB 03.10.01. It’s a phone from the US, locked to AT&T.

I didn’t get it work initially, but as of yesterday I finally managed to make it work for my T-mobile sim. Most important thing is: put your sim in another phone (that supports your network) and select a different provider in your network settings, in my case I chose O2. Some failure message will appear (can’t connect) and if you return to your phone’s home screen you’ll see you have no network at all. Remove your sim and continue with the steps that come with the rebel sim; put it in switched off Iphone…etc. You’ll need to have carrier search set to automatic.

I did have to go through the steps up and forth a few times, including dialling 112 and switching airplane mode on and off. You might also want to eject the sim tray some times (will Iphone is on) and put back in.

I didn’t try to reboot to see if it still works after, too happy that it’s finally working 🙂

I needed to set the APN settings to have 3G working. Best is to copy the settings from someone you know with the same network. Same goes for MMS setting I suppose, didn’t try yet.

Hope it will work for people here too. Good luck!

hi we are sorry for any problems and issues people are facing and our network has been down this is why people were experiencing problems

we have a new customer service team and they are now online.
people facing issues can call us (contact details can be obtained by our contact us page on our website “RebelSimCard”)

we are here to help and will sort out any technical issues being faced.
and i can confirm RebelSimCard are not a SCAM this is just bad mouth and rumours being spread about the company

and like Luke from the previous post is happy and is confirming that Rebel Sim is working, just a few steps need to be completed such as activation of phone and sim need to be done before starting our instruction guide which users can get from our downloads page.

@RebelTeam67

I indeed got my Iphone working with Rebel Sim, and it still does work fortunately.

However, I think it’s unfair to simply label your customers as spreaders of bad mouth and false rumours. Many of them are complaining about the Rebel Sim because they received a product that was completely DIFFERENT than was advertised, which is an undeniable fact.

It’s different in the way it looks and in the way it functions. It’s not a plug & play solution and it did require many people to call the emergency number to activate their Iphones. THAT’S why people got mad and called your business a scam.

Imagine a BMW dealer sends you a Volkswagen while you were expecting your new 7 series, claiming “hey it’s a car right, it will get you from A to B. It has 4 wheels and an engine” – Wouldn’t you feel you got scammed and get mad?

I’m glad to see your team taking it more seriously now, let’s hope your claims will be followed with more positive reviews in the future.

Exactly guys, I am also disappointed about Rebel SIM. After trying a lot I got career back just for 4 days worked without any problems. After 4 days suddenly it lost the signal and started trying to get back the signal by hustling as usual 112 number for 24 hours and finally give up trying. What a pain!

Well , if you do a little research on the net and if you give both Gevey and RebelSIM to someone who knows about circuits and chips , you’ll find out that RebelSIM is just Gevey , but re-branded and sold two times more expensive than Gevey !!! Many times it won’t work because of cheap and defective manufacturing ,sometimes it works because it’s simply Gevey. Therefore it makes RebelSIM , a fake and fraudulent company, it is not bad mouthing, it is just the truth !!! Businesses like RebelSIM are thieves ,they cheat you out of your hard earned cash ,and they should be condemned and shutdown.

firstly hahahaha, the insane nonsense on this site is clear, gevey doesn’t like competition, yet they cant make business so what is the next best thing, decrease business of a rivals. One Word PATHETIC. the rebel sim has a newer version out of the rebel sim which has pretty much clocked the flaws of the previous. visit at rebelsimcard.com and have your own point of view rather than listening to sum lonely pathetic person typin behind a keyboard. surely ppl can see it isnt a scam, jus read the positive comments received on the site, better yet y dont u see if u can leave 1 after purchasing on the site. dont believe this idiots opinion have your own!!!!

Don’t buy anything from rebelsimcard.com
Customer service is non existent.

I bought a Rebel 2Phone Dual Standby Sim Case for my iPhone.
They sold me a version that had a design fault .. model no: FM01.
The newer version (FM01-A) is fine.

They wont refund or exchange….

DONT BUY FROM THIS COMPANY
