When it comes to SEO, the first thing people generally want to know is how much SEO services will cost, and understandably, want to spend the least amount possible when it comes to SEO. The costs of SEO services vary from company to company, and different companies will offer different costs for their services. However, in this industry, the adage ‘you get what you pay for’ is very much true, and worth keeping in mind when it comes to deciding on an SEO provider.

Running costs vs. Service level

The costs can vary based on a few factors. A smaller company or an SEO professional who works from a home office will have smaller overheads than a larger company. Lower costs can mean that the service level you receive is more personalised, or it can mean that not as much investment goes into resources that can be used for SEO. For example, an SEO professional will not hire a content writer to offer this service specifically. Instead, content writing will either be written by the SEO professional, or outsourced to freelance copywriters.

An investment in SEO

A larger SEO company will, in most cases, have the necessary funds to spend time on the research and development aspect of SEO. This allows them to continually be able to improve upon service levels and find better ways of implementing SEO techniques. While smaller companies and SEO professionals will still monitor changes when it comes to SEO, they won’t have quite the same investment that a larger company can afford.

SEO companies vs. SEO professionals

In an ideal world, everyone would be able to afford the best when it comes to SEO, with the most keywords and the best services levels. However, this is not always the case, and is by no means an indication of profit level for a company, or SEO knowledge of a small SEO business or SEO professional. A large SEO company can offer you specialised services like link building, copywriting and web design, whereas a SEO professional will generally offer all these services themselves, or potentially outsource them. This scenario does run the risk of a lower quality SEO campaign, but at the same time, there can be a higher level of personalised service offered, as you are dealing with one person for all your SEO needs.

Regardless of who you go with, the most important thing to do is to start SEO with a plan. Know how you want to start your campaign, know your business, know the goals you want to achieve with SEO, and how you want to achieve them.
